The following are my unbiased thoughts about the SPDR recorder, by Lectrosonics.
The SPDR (Stereo Portable Digital Recorder) is a small 2 input recorder. This tiny device is a dream come true for motorcycle sessions where I need two mics to capture engine and exhaust sounds. To record Onboard sounds, I usually have the rider wear a backpack to house a field recorder. With the SPDR, I don’t need to use a backpack because it can be clipped to the rider’s belt. Even at high speed, the tiny recorder was secured on the rider’s belt!!
PROS: -Pocket size -Sounds FANTASTIC!!! -Super clean microphone preamps (still sounds great when you crank up the recordings during post editing) -Can record very quiet and VERY LOUD sounds! -Has Time Code -Playback works Very well. In the pause mode, I CAN easily fast forward & rewind for critical listening -TA5 Adapters and TA5 Adapter Cables are available for a variety of microphones
CONS: -Limited to 32gb MicroSD memory card -Wish a future version would have a fast shortcut(s) for certain features (such as the lock mode, if the recorder was placed inside a pocket, backpack, etc). -Wish a future version would have USB-C port for additional power (even though you can record a super long day using two Ultimate Lithium AA batteries)
