Milab Microphones Company (Pearl Microphones) has closed down

With great sadness I found out that Milab Microphones (Pearl Microphones) in Sweden was closed down on August 11, 2025. The Pearl MS8CL is one of my favorite Mid-Side (MS) stereo mics of all time. It would probably be The Mic if I can only own one.

Mr. Bernt Malmqvist was the maker of many of their mics include the MS8CL. This model was used in hit movies like Castaway (listen to the beach ambience sounds) and others. I used mine when I was hired to work on The Underground Railroad, an Amazon TV show (Florida wilderness ambience and a Steam Train). Moreover, The Ferrari Testarossa exotic car in The Grand Tour game was also recorded with this same mic. Others include Fortnite and other hit titles. This is my mic choice when I need to record high frequencies, quiet to loud sources, watercraft etc sounds.

The MS8CL and the brother MSH 10, shotgun mic version both have 5 pin stereo output with a need Y-cable (5 pin XLR to dual 3 pin XLR for left and right channels).

I do hope a thriving company will buy their assets with employees to continue the production and support of the quality microphones. Thank you, to the hard working people at Milab (Pearl). Your products helped me capture and design great sounds.
