New Portable Battery Recorder Rig

Found a better way to do simple handheld recordings. I call this my “Portable Battery Recorder”.

Instead of hooking up a USB battery pack to a recorder, I found a long and thin USB battery pack that functions as the handle for a windshield kit. There are other USB Battery Packs but I really like this one. The grippy texture makes it easier to handhold.

This is great for tracking a moving vehicle or pointing your mic at various things while your other hand is free to perform various tasks (like opening/closing doors for Foley effects gathering).

Once I hit RECORD, I just move the Zoom F3 switch to HOLD and take advantage of 32 Bit technology and voice slate what I’m doing.

Mini-Alto windshield kit from Radius Windshields. I Highly recommend this product because it’s because noise free from handling noise. The outbreak cabling on the side makes it easier to hold the USB battery handle for ergonomic handheld recording.

USB Battery Pack (Newmowa brand 10,000 mah for all day recordings). It includes a short USB-C cable. You may need to try various ones to see what will power your recorder.

Mini Ball Head Mount for Zoom F3 or Zoom H1-XLR field recorder. This one will allow you to mount your recorder at various positions for left or right handed people.

Camera Mount Screw (3/8” to 1/4”). This is the best adapter with holes to tighten and un-tighten using the included Hex-L key. I always keep a few in my wallet so I can always fix problems. Carrying pliers on me is a little harder to do, lo.
Next I might try with quick release so I can change from handholding versus mic on a mic stand.
