Today is the release of Borderlands 3 game. It was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. I was contracted to source out and record various weapon and tire sounds for this Crazy title.
The sounds you hear may only last a few seconds, but it took a lot of preparation and work to achieve sonic greatness. One can not just simply pull out an iPhone, hit record, and hope to capture high quality sounds. It takes a lot of planning, effort, man power, quiet locations, and high end gear to capture quality sounds.
WEAPON RECORDING SESSION (BTS VIDEO)
TIRE Recording Session video - using a Tesla Model 3 electric car (for pure tire sounds)
Gearbox wanted sounds of various weapons from far, medium, and close distances. Moreover, they requested a mic to be on the weapon to capture the mechanical sounds.
I hired a friend’s friend who owns a Model 3 Tesla electric car. Justin was a pro at making the electric car perform drifts and all kinds of crazy loud tire sounds. Multiple mics were placed at various spots to capture quiet to loud tire sounds. Even though a Tesla is a quiet car, there are still electronic whine and fan sounds that I had to avoid capturing. When the car and batteries get hot (here in HOT Florida), the fans will kick in to cool them down.
